My name is Neil Poulsen
I started my photography journey in 2016, drawn to the art of capturing moments and the emotions they carry. Very quickly, I found myself gravitating toward concert photography. The energy, the lights, the raw emotion of live music—it was everything I loved about photography, all in one place. Concerts became my passion, and I spent years immersing myself in that world, capturing not just the artists, but the connection between the music and the audience.
Then, during the pandemic, when live shows came to a halt, I had to adapt. With concerts on hold, I turned to nature to continue expressing myself through my camera. It was a shift, but it was also a revelation. The quiet beauty of the natural world allowed me to experiment with new techniques, focusing even more on light, color, and the feelings they evoke. I learned to find energy in stillness, and through that, I discovered a new dimension to my work.
Now, I draw inspiration from both worlds—music and nature—using my lens to capture the emotion in every scene, whether it’s the intensity of a concert or the peacefulness of a forest at dawn. For me, photography has always been about connecting with a moment and sharing that feeling, no matter where it comes from.
As a photographer, my goal is to capture the feeling of a moment, not just the image. I focus on the emotions and energy that make each moment unique. For me, it’s about translating that energy into something you can see, using light and color to bring the feeling to life.
Light is my main tool—it’s how I shape the mood of a scene. Whether it’s soft or dramatic, light has the power to transform an image and make it speak.
Color is just as important. It’s not about making things look pretty; it’s about creating a certain vibe. Warm colors might make you feel cozy, while cooler tones might give a sense of calm or quiet. Every color choice I make has a reason—it adds to the story I’m trying to tell with the photo.
Ultimately, I want my photos to make you feel something. I want them to be more than just a snapshot, but a moment you can connect with. For me, photography is about capturing the beauty in everyday life, and sharing that feeling with others.
